NorthEast United FC continued their impressive run of form in the MG Indian Super League (ISL), extending their unbeaten streak to five matches with a convincing 2-0 victory over Churchill Brothers at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on Thursday. Ethyan González opened the scoring in the first half before Antonio Moyano struck in stoppage time to ensure the Highlanders secured all three points.

The victory saw NorthEast United provisionally strengthen their position at the top of the league standings, with the result putting further pressure on the chasing teams. Their position, however, remained subject to the outcome of the day's second fixture between Mohun Bagan SG and Odisha FC.

The Highlanders made an early statement, taking the lead in the 16th minute through González. The move originated from a quick transition following a defensive lapse by Churchill Brothers. Jithin MS capitalised on the opportunity to drive the counter-attack forward before setting up González, who showcased excellent technique to guide the ball into the net with the outside of his boot.

Churchill Brothers attempted to respond immediately but found it difficult to break through NorthEast United's organised defensive structure. The Highlanders carried their advantage into the half-time interval, having made the most of their attacking opportunity.

The home side returned for the second half with greater urgency and determination, pushing more players forward in search of an equaliser. Churchill Brothers enjoyed spells of attacking pressure and tested the NorthEast defence, but the Highlanders remained disciplined and composed, effectively managing the pressure and limiting clear-cut opportunities.

As the contest entered its closing stages, Churchill continued to search for a breakthrough, leaving spaces at the back. NorthEast United took advantage of those spaces in the third minute of stoppage time to put the result beyond doubt. Abdul Rabeeh played the ball into Antonio Moyano's path, and the midfielder made no mistake with a right-footed effort that took a deflection before finding the back of the net.

The late strike sealed a well-earned 2-0 victory for NorthEast United, underlining their ability to combine attacking efficiency with defensive resilience. With five consecutive matches without defeat, the Highlanders will take considerable confidence from another important performance as they continue their push at the top end of the ISL table.
