Hero I-League heavyweights East Bengal have secured the services of Narayan Das of FC Goa to boost their title chances as they bid to wrestle back the trophy from arch-rivals and current champions Mohun Bagan. The Kolkata club confirmed on Friday that FC Goa’s marauding full-back will be joining them for the rest of the season.Having played an important role on the flanks and defence in the Gaurs’ run to the final in the second edition of the Hero Indian Super League, Das is likely to play a major role for the Red and Gold Brigade this season. The 22-year-old put in some solid displays at the back for FC Goa and also made his presence felt in the final third by contributing an assist and providing 12 crosses. While defending, he made 25 tackles, 41 clearances as well as 13 interceptions and blocks.Narayan’s addition promises to solidify East Bengal’s backline. His lung-bursting overlapping runs from the flanks will also come in handy. East Bengal won their opening match of the season last week, beating Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 thanks to a brace from Ranti Martins and a strike from Bikash Jairu.
