Mumbai City FC, on Friday, confirmed the signing of Tunisian international Amine Chermiti for the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 campaign. The 31-year-old striker comes with years of experience and is a proven goal scorer at the highest level.

Born in Sfax, Tunisia, Chermiti began his career at JS Kairouan and moved to Sousse-based side ES Sahel as an 18-year-old back in 2006. In his very first season, Chermiti's reputation skyrocketed as he helped the team to win the double - the Ligue I Pro (Tunisian top division) and the CAF (African) Champions League. The striker netted five times in 12 appearances in the league, but his most notable contribution came in the Champions League, where he scored eight times in 11 matches, including in the final. He finished as the competition's joint second-highest top scorer that season.

After helping Sahel clinch the CAF Supercup 2007-08, Chermiti was signed up by Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. His time in Germany, however, didn't turn out to be quite as fruitful and after a loan spell with Saudi Arabian outfit Ittihad, he moved to Swiss side FC Zurich in 2010. The attacker spent six glorious years at the club, winning the Swiss Cup twice - once in 2014 and the other in 2016. During his time with FC Zurich, Chermiti made 153 appearances and scored 44 goals. He also played regularly in the Europa League during this time.

The Tunisian then went on to have brief stints in France and Kuwait before returning to his home country for a second term with Sahel. He last played for Saudi side Al-Feiha before joining the Islanders.

Chermiti has also represented the Tunisia national side more than 30 times, including in the Africa Cup of Nations. Mumbai City have already retained last season's club top-scorer Modou Sougou and creator-in-chief Paulo Machado for the upcoming campaign. Chermiti's addition to the mix ensures the Islanders will go into Hero ISL 2019-20 with a lethal offensive roster.
