Sarthak Golui and Diego Carlos have joined Mumbai City FC from Maharashtra-based rivals FC Pune City

Defender Sarthak Golui and winger Diego Carlos have joined Mumbai City FC from Maharashtra-based rivals FC Pune City. The duo becomes the latest signings for the Islanders, who have been busy in the transfer market.

Sarthak is regarded as one of the most promising young right-backs in the country and is rated highly for his offensive returns from the position. Blessed with pace and good crossing ability, Sarthak tends to make frequent overlapping runs to help out his team in the opposition third.

The youngster got his first taste of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) back in 2017-18 with the Stallions. He had a brilliant campaign during Pune City's run to the semi-finals and even contributed with a goal and three assists in 15 appearances.

Pune struggled in the 2018-19 season and frequent changes at the helm saw Sarthak play just 12 matches. The 21-year-old, however, maintained his attacking returns and chipped in with two assists.

His addition will add substantially to the Islanders' backline and Jorge Costa's quick counter-attacking style may be the perfect stage for him to showcase his talents.

Carlos, Brazilian by birth, began his professional career at Flamengo before moving to Corinthians. In 2011, he ventured abroad to Russia, where he spent a good six seasons playing for teams like FK Novgorod, Luch Vladivostok and FK Ufa. He returned to Brazil to sign for Sao Bento in 2017 but his stay there was short. Carlos signed for FC Pune City ahead of the Hero ISL 2017-18 and became an integral part of the Stallions’ setup which reached the semi-finals, featuring 18 times and contributing with two goals and an assist.

With Pune struggling in the 2018-19 season, the nippy winger saw his game time almost halved but produced the same number of offensive returns as the previous season – two goals and an assist. The 31-year-old will definitely add some depth to the Islanders’ offence this season.
