ATK Mohun Bagan fell prey to their own mistakes as an own goal cancelled out their lead in their match against Mumbai City FC, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the PJN Stadium in Margao, Goa in match 80 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

David Williams (9’) capitalized on Ahmed Jahouh’s sloppiness on the ball and slotted one into the bottom corner, giving the Mariners an early lead only for it to be cancelled out by a Pritam Kotal own goal (24’), from a Bipin Singh cross from the left flank.

Juan Ferrando’s men bossed the first 20 minutes of the game, were deadly on the attack, with 60% possession, and created several chances, first of which fell to Hugo Boumous from a free-kick, but he was unable to find a Green and Maroon shirt in the box.

In the eighth minute, Jahouh’s indecision was pounced on by Boumous, who won the possession and passed it to Williams, who then went past two defenders and fired one low shot into the bottom corner through the legs of Mehtab Singh.

Colaco then failed to convert a chance from a free-kick after hitting the wall twice in the 18th minute. On the other side, Mumbai City FC got their first big chance in the 21st minute through Cassio Gabriel who took a well powered shot after receiving a cross from Mandar Dessai, only to see it be blocked by Tiri who put his body on the line.

Within minutes, Bipin Singh who was on the left flank whipped in a weighted cross, which was headed into his own net by Kotal, to level the score.

Dominating the attack, the Mariners created another chance through Boumous who threaded in a ball to Manvir Singh who had a go at Nawaz but the latter was strong enough to make the save.

Then there was a big chance for ATK Mohun Bagan to take the lead when Colaco took the free-kick and the ball deflected off the wall, only to land in front of Williams who headed it onto the post.

Right before both the teams headed into the break, Apuia gave away the ball after his sloppy pass was intercepted by Williams who went on to take a shot but it was brilliantly saved by Nawaz who got his hand on the ball.

In the second half, Des Buckingham’s men had the chance to take the lead from a pin-point cross from Ahmed Jahouh towards Igor Angulo but the Spaniard headed it wide of the target.

The Islanders got another chance in the 66th minute through Cassio Gabriel who was through on goal after going past two defenders but his shot was far off target.

Mumbai City FC found themselves on the attack once again through Gabriel who flicked a perfect cross to Lallianzuala Chhangte who cheekily headed it to Angulo but the Spaniard headed it onto the goalkeeper.

Prabir Das who came on for Deepak Tangri in the 73rd minute had a chance from outside the box in the dying moments of the game as he struck it well but saw it fly over the bar.

The draw meant that neither side could break into the top four as Mumbai City FC climbed up to the sixth position with 19 points whereas ATK Mohun Bagan remained in the fifth position with 20 points with three games in-hand.
