Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina showered praise on his players as they secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday.

The Mariners were off the mark since the offset as they registered a promising 3-0 lead in the first half. Subhasish Bose scored a brace while Manvir Singh’s headed goal from Jason Cummings’ corner handed a high-flying start to Jose Molina’s men in the Kolkata Derby.

However, Singh further scored another in the second half, leading the Mariners to another thumping victory in the high-octane clash. With that, Mohun Bagan SG completed their first league double over Mohammedan SC and remain unbeaten in the Kolkata derby in the league.

The Mariners generated relentless attacking moves throughout the game, generating 66 final third entries. Molina commended his players’ offensive prowess but believed his team could score more to record a bigger result in the Kolkata derby.

“I'm really happy with the performance of the team. We could have scored more goals; we had the chances, and we were not successful enough to score more. We would like to score a lot of goals every match. But in some moments, okay, those things happen,” the Mohun Bagan SG head coach said in the post-match press conference.

The league leaders created 14 chances in the game compared to the opponent’s seven. Molina voiced his pleasure at his team creating a huge number of chances in every game and defended his forwards, who missed a couple of chances in the second half.

“I always say the same, and I repeat again. For me, the most important thing is to have chances. If you have the chances, the goals will come, for sure. Right now, I would like to support my strikers, because they didn't score, but they did a great job, and they had the chances,” Molina remarked.

“In another moment, the goal will come, for sure. They are doing a great job today, or even in the last matches, they were not successful enough to score goals. But even with that, I'm absolutely happy with all of them; working really hard, having the chances, and the goals for sure will come,” he continued.

Jason Cummings was seen operating in a deeper role, in the number 10 position. The versatile forward has comfortably adapted to his new responsibilities and played a pivotal role in Mohun Bagan SG’s convincing victory that helped the defending league shield winners go 10 points clear at the top.

The Aussie forward has notched two assists and deservingly won the Player of the Match award in this high-stakes fixture.

Speaking on Cummings’ new role, Molina remarked, “He (Cummings) has the quality to do it. He can come to the box and score goals, have the options to score, and create chances, even if he is not scoring right now. But if not, he can assist.”

“Cummings is really doing a good job with (Jamie) MacLaren and (Greg) Stewart. I am absolutely happy with all of them. And I am sure in any moment, they are going to score more goals,” Molina signed off.
