Hyderabad FC ended their three-game losing run with a 4-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC in Match 47 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Monday. After Joel Chianese opened the scoring for his team, two goals from Halicharan Narzary on either side of a brilliant Joao Victor strike sealed the victory for the Telangana-based club.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hyderabad head coach Manuel Marquez admitted that the win over Chennaiyin was an important one for his team after three consecutive losses. “After three defeats, we needed to win. But I think that the feeling of the team is better [now]. We didn't deserve three defeats. It was a very important victory and we are very satisfied with the performance of all the players,” the Spaniard said.

“The last defeat [against FC Goa] was very tough. We didn't deserve to lose. For me, when we scored the third goal [tonight], the game was practically over. I am very happy for the players. They worked a lot,” Marquez added.

Halicharan Narzary doubled the lead for his side before sealing the victory for Hyderabad with his second goal of the night. The Indian winger has been an important player for Marquez’s side and the Spaniard heaped praise on him after his brace. “When Hyderabad signed Halicharan, we knew we signed a great player. He is a very good player because he can play as a winger and as an attacking midfielder. We know the quality of Halicharan and this is the reason he also plays in the national team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chennaiyin head coach Csaba Laszlo was disappointed with the loss against Hyderabad and he insisted that conceding the opening goal hurt the confidence of his players. “We were not in the game from the beginning. In the first 10 minutes it could have been 2-0 for the opponents and it looks like we didn't have our attention. Everyone lost their confidence after the score became 1-0,” he said.

Laszlo added that his team were dominated by their opponents in the middle of the park and he expected more creativity from his players. “It was a very bad performance for my team because I didn't see any creativity and any chances for my team. We have to do more. Especially in the midfield, we lost possession of the ball and this cost us the win,” the 56-year-old shared.
