Delhi Dynamos FC thumped defending champions Chennaiyin FC 4-1 as more than 15,000 home fans cheered on at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. Florent Malouda scored a brace, while Richard Gadze and Kean Lewis scored one each as Delhi did the double over the Super Machans this season. Bernard Mendy scored through a solo effort to salvage some pride for Chennaiyin but it couldn’t stop Delhi from going top of the table.The game started out evenly with both teams trying to get more of the ball. Raphael Augusto was the first to force a save when his attempt went straight to Delhi goalkeeper Antonio Doblas. Delhi asserted their superiority in midfield and it showed when Gadze broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Malouda’s powerful shot from distance was spilled by Karanjit Singh and Gadze put the rebound into the back of the next.It was all Delhi with the trio of Lewis, Malouda and Gadze wreaking havoc on the left side of the pitch. The second goal seemed round the corner for the Lions and Malouda obliged in the 25th minute with a left-footer into the bottom corner. Gadze had set up the Frenchman for his first ever Hero ISL goal.Delhi seemed to be running away with the game when Mendy brought Chennai back with a solo effort in the 37th minute. Going past three men, he unleashed a low drive past Doblas to make it 2-1. The game heated up in the closing minutes of the first period with a few rash tackles coming in, but Delhi managed to go into the break with their lead intact.Chennaiyin head coach Marco Materazzi brought on Jeje Lalpekhlua with an eye on goal and the Indian striker almost got the goal early in the second half. Malouda soon forced Karanjit into a brilliant save and then a minute a later the Lions had their third goal as Lewis brilliantly finished off Malouda’s pass in the 54th minute.With the clock ticking, Chennaiyin tried to get back into the game as Jeje and Hans Mulder sent a couple of chances into the stands. At the other end, Marcelinho threw a big scare into the Super Machans camp but his header didn’t hit the target.
