Goals from Hero-of-the-Match Rafael Crivellaro and Rahim Ali helped Chennaiyin FC to a 2-1 win over FC Goa in Match 33 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday. The Marina Machans created many goal-scoring opportunities in the match and could have scored more with better finishing up front, however, head coach Csaba Laszlo appeared satisfied with this team’s performance in the post-match press conference.

“We have to be focused [while finishing] if we create so many chances, but it is not because of a lack of confidence. Chhangte had three fantastic chances, even Rafael Crivellaro had a chance to score as well but at the end of the day we got very important three points for us,” said Laszlo.

“A win is always very satisfying. I am proud of the boys and we deserved to win this game. Even if we win every game 2-1, I am happy because we have the three points,” added the 56-year-old.

Chennaiyin were the more threatening side but in addition they also managed to cover their lines in defence to keep the Goa attackers at bay. Laszlo was happy that his tactics worked against the Gaurs. “My plan was to stop Goa because they can play good offensive football. They have a lot of ball possession and our tactics was to stay compact and prevent any spaces between our players. The team and the boys have done a good job,” said Laszlo.

Meanwhile, FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando was disappointed with the result after an untidy performance from his players. “I am disappointed with the game because we were not good with the transitions. We made a lot of mistakes, probably because the players are tired,” he said.

However, the Spaniard had some words of encouragement for 24-year-old Alexander Jesuraj who has been a revelation for FC Goa so far and on the night picked up his third assist of the season. “Jesuraj is good while pressing and also while working in the defence which is why he is in the team. But of course he needs to improve,” said Ferrando.
