Antonio Habas’ ATK FC made light work of Jamshedpur FC as they beat them 3-0 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Striker Roy Krishna bagged a brace with forward Edu Garcia scoring the other goal on a successful night for the visitors. Courtesy of the three points, ATK now overtake FC Goa at the top of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 table, with Jamshedpur staying where they were in seventh place with 16 points from 14 matches.

  • Roy Krishna latched on to a defensive error to score in the second minute.
  • Jamshedpur’s Jitendra Singh was shown a second yellow and the subsequent red card in the 52nd minute.
  • Edu Garcia doubled ATK’s lead in the 59th minute.
  • Krishna capped off a sensational performance with his second goal in the 75th minute.

The visitors were off to a flying start with Krishna putting them in the lead in just the second minute. The striker pounced on an under-hit Sandip Mandi pass, which left Memo Moura stranded and allowed Krishna to slot the ball past Subrata Paul in the Jamshedpur goal.

Having gotten the early lead, the visitors settled in their comfortable shape and allowed the home side to have more of the possession. In the 13th minute, ATK were once again presented with an opportunity as Subrata’s clearance didn’t have much distance to it and found Krishna at the edge of the box. Fortunately for Jamshedpur, the striker’s shot was straight at Subrata.

Seven minutes later, the visitors were provided with an even clearer sight at goal, but defender Pritam Kotal failed to apply the right header. The next opportunity again fell the visitors’ way, this time from a rebound off the Jamshedpur defence. Garcia ran free at Subrata but his clever dink was well-read by the 33-year-old.

Three minutes after the half an hour mark, ATK should have taken a two-goal lead as Krishna offered Garcia the opportunity to score with Subrata off his line. However, the forward’s attempt, though goal bound, was prevented from going in by Jamshedpur’s Joyner Lourenco.

There wasn’t much in terms of clear-cut chances in the last 10 minutes of the first half, which ended 1-0 in ATK’s favour.

Jamshedpur began the second 45 in much better shape and seemed to rattle the visitors with some good closing down. However, just when they were building momentum and seizing some control, youngster Jitendra Singh was shown a second yellow and a subsequent red card in the 52nd minute.

With a goal and a man up, the visitors surged forward with Garcia having two clear chances within three minutes. After failing to make the most of either of them, the Spaniard finally got his name on the scoresheet in the 59th minute. The striker led the counter-attack and fed the ball to Krishna, who returned the compliment and allowed Garcia to double ATK’s lead.

The visitors had the opportunity to score a couple more in the next 10 minutes but didn’t find the right finish to cap it off. In the 75th minute, however, Krishna made sure ATK registered their third goal, as he broke Jamshedpur’s defensive line to latch onto a Garcia through ball and score his second of the night.

With 78 minutes on the clock, Jamshedpur had their best effort on goal with Aniket Jadhav forcing an incredible save off Arindam Bhattacharja. That turned out to the last notable action of the encounter, as the night ended on ATK’s favour.

Hero of the Match – Roy Krishna

The 32-year-old ATK striker proved too good for the Jamshedpur defence, as he ended the night by scoring a brace and providing an assist. Krishna’s movement and impeccable control were evident throughout the 90 minutes, with ATK hoping for similar performances in the coming games.
