Kerala Blasters FC on Saturday announced that attacking midfielder Adrian Luna has undergone a minor knee surgery following an injury and will continue his rehabilitation.

The news comes as a blow to Ivan Vukomanovic’s side who are firmly in the race for the ISL League Shield with 20 points from their first ten games.

The Uruguayan has been instrumental in the Blasters’ strong start to the season contributing three goals and four assists so far. He has also created 26 chances for his team which is the most by any player this season.

“The Club would like to update that, Adrian Luna successfully underwent a minor arthroscopic surgery for the treatment of a chondral knee injury after which he is currently in the process of rest and recovery towards full fitness,” the club wrote in a statement on its official website.

“In collaboration with a team of medical experts, the Kerala Blasters medical staff will closely monitor Adrian Luna’s rehabilitation, to ensure a seamless and complete recovery back onto the field of play,” it added.

“As a beloved member of the Blasters family, we wish Adrian Luna a swift recovery from this setback and hope to see him soon back in action leading the team,” the statement continued.

Kerala Blasters FC haven’t announced the exact extent of Luna’s injury providing hope that the midfielder could return to action again this season, especially with the league taking a break in January for the AFC Asian Cup and Kalinga Super Cup.

The Yellow Army showed that they can find a way to victory even without their talisman when they edged past Punjab FC in New Delhi on Thursday to go second in the ISL table.

Ivan Vukomanovic will hope his team can pull together and make up for the absence of their creative spark who is also a great asset in terms of the work rate that he adds to the team.

Kerala Blasters FC’s next match in the ISL is on December 24 when they host fellow League Shield contenders Mumbai City FC in Kochi.
