Kerala Blasters FC have announced the loan signing of Argentine striker Jorge Pereyra Diaz from Club Atletico Platense for the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL).

Apart from representing several clubs in his native country, the 31-year-old has also plied his trade in countries like Malaysia, Mexico, Chile and Bolivia.

“We are proud and happy to have a player like Jorge in the team and I would like to congratulate him. He can put in some solid performances with his potential and we extend our support to him,” Kerala Blasters FC Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys said after the forward’s signing.

Diaz is the seventh signing at the club since finishing 10th in the 2020-21 Hero ISL. He follows Hormipam Ruivah, Sanjeev Stalin, Vincy Barretto, Harmanjot Khabra, Adrian Luna and Enes Sipovic into the team.

Kerala Blasters FC started their pre-season on July 30 last month shortly after bringing on board Ivan Vukomanovic as their new head coach. In a first for the club, they will also be featuring in the 130th edition of the Durand Cup – Asia’s oldest football tournament – which will run from September 5 to October 3.

‘We are very pleased to participate in this year’s Durand Cup. Hope that we will have good games ahead as it is very important to play games in this part of pre-season. The tournament format could be an extra motivation for our players because we like to compete,’ said Vukomanovic ahead of the tournament.
