The Kalinga Super Cup's inaugural day promises excitement with the participation of both Kolkata clubs, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, and East Bengal FC, each boasting extensive and passionate fan bases.

In the opening match on Tuesday, East Bengal FC will face off against Hyderabad FC, while later, Mohun Bagan SG clash with Sreenidi Deccan FC. This edition's victors secure a direct entry into the 2024–25 AFC Champions League 2 Group Stages, motivating all teams to start positively.

Hyderabad FC will be aiming to regain their form when they meet East Bengal FC in the opening match of the Kalinga Super Cup 2024.

They are the only winless team in the ISL 2023-24 season so far and are currently on a 11-match winless streak.

While Hyderabad FC have endured a tough start, East Bengal FC have been performing well in recent times. They are unbeaten in their last five ISL games. Carles Cuadrat’s men showed defensive solidity and resilience, which helped them concede the second-fewest goal this ISL season after FC Goa. The Kolkata-based club will try to bag a win to start the tournament with positive vibes.

The last meetings between East Bengal FC and Hyderabad FC ended in a 2-1 score line in favour of the Red & Gold Brigade.

Mohun Bagan SG will also be in action against I-League side Sreenidi Deccan FC in the second match of the opening day. It’s a new start for the Mariners, who will be looking to regain their confidence after the departure of former head coach Juan Ferrando, who was replaced by Antonio Lopez Habas.

Mohun Bagan SG won their opening five matches in the current ISL campaign, becoming the first club to do so. However, the year ended on a sour note for the Mariners after they lost three straight fixtures. Ferrando’s exit soon followed.

Mohun Bagan SG will be without the absence of several Indian players, who will be involved in the AFC Cup, making the clash even more challenging.
