Mumbai City FC handed Bengaluru FC their first defeat of the season, as they beat them 3-2 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. The Islanders stuck to a plan and executed it to perfection, earning what was only their second win of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 season. With the three points, Jorge Costa’s side goes up to sixth and are now just three points off a playoff spot.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Mumbai head coach expressed his sheer delight at the performance of his players. Costa said, “I’m very happy. In the first half, we played with good quality. We scored the goal and we missed a penalty in the last second. In football, if the score is 2-0 just before the half, the second half would be easy.”

He further continued, “When we missed a penalty in the last second of the first half, it is natural that my players will be a bit dejected and the opposition will be better. We had a difficult start to the second half. We were also playing against one of the best teams in the league and at the home of the champions. We knew from before that it was going to be a difficult game for us.”

“We played well, fought and did our best. We had some luck, which we didn’t have in any of the other games. Sometimes you win two points in the last second and sometimes lose two points. This is football. But I am very proud of the effort of the players,” added Costa.

The Portuguese also revealed that he changed nothing in terms of tactics ahead of the match, “We didn’t change anything. Every game we must understand the routine of the opponent team. We knew they are good at defending. In the first half, we were almost perfect. Before we missed the penalty, it was a perfect first 45 minutes. We won the three points because of our quality, because we worked and because we believed in each other.”
