NorthEast United FC settled for a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Monday in their sixth Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) match of the season. Panagiotis Triadis rescued a point for his side after scoring in the 90th minute to cancel out Sergio Castel’s first-half opener.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, NorthEast head coach Robert Jarni was content with his team’s performance, “This is a great result for us. We knew this is what is to be expected here. As I said before, for me, this is the best team in India. One point here is very good for us.”

“In the first-half, we played very good defensively. We made a few mistakes, three to four mistakes, and we gave Jamshedpur opportunities. But we lacked quality in the attack. In the second-half, we were down 1-0. We gave it our all, put in the attacking players and showed a lot of character,” the Croatian added.

NorthEast United’s next game is a tough home fixture against table toppers ATK and the 51-year-old shared his views on the game, he said, “The next match, like all other matches, is something we want to win. I know we will play against another team who is in form and are very good, but we are playing at home. More importantly, centre-half Kai Heerings will be back.”

Asked about the defensive tactic deployed by him in the first-half, Jarni said, “Yes, we played a defensive tactic in the first-half because we needed the extra midfielder as we didn’t have the space in the middle.”
