NorthEast United FC and Jamshedpur FC played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in their Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 clash at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Monday. The match saw six unique scorers, with Federico Gallego, Redeem Tlang and Jose Leudo scoring for the Highlanders, while Jamshedpur’s goals were accounted for by David Grande, Noe Acosta and Memo Moura.

After the match, former NorthEast head coach Robert Jarni analysed his team’s performance on the night and said, “Our team played very well, I am very pleased with their performance. We must be happy with the one point, but with the chances we had, we should have won the match. On one side, I'm sad but on the other, I feel lucky. My players showed that they can play very well and the future seems bright.”

Speaking about the fighting spirit his team showed throughout the match, the Croat remarked, “We didn't change too much. We cannot be in the top four, so all I told them was to play for their pride."

Heaping praise on goalkeeper Subhasish Roy, who saved a penalty on the night, Jarni stated, “I am very happy with my keeper. Our goalkeeper has great stats. When we look overall, I think he is one of the best goalkeepers. I am very pleased with him.”

From the Jamshedpur camp, head coach Antonio Iriondo attended the briefing. On the topsy-turvy nature of the contest, Iriondo noted, “We cannot say it was a good match but the players gave their 100%. Maybe the players were nervous because of their situation. The condition of the team doesn't help. Both teams were trying but there were a lot of mistakes.”

The Spaniard also had some warm words for the youngsters in his team as he said, “Everything they tried is something to be proud about. They are trying their best even after making mistakes, but it's okay. We expect them to get this experience, which is very important. They gave their 100%."

“A couple of the players have been trying to improve every day. Today was another chance to improve, be better and get experience. That should be enough to go out having full motivation,” he added.
