Stewart received just 9% of the fans’ votes but the experts favored him heavily as he was picked for the award by eight out of the eleven experts on the panel. Thus, his cumulative percentage stood at 41, just ahead of Kerala Blasters FC’s Sahal Abdul Samad who received a whopping 79% of the fans’ votes. But with no expert picking the Kerala Blasters FC midfielder, he missed out on the award by a whisker as his cumulative percentage stood at 39.5.

Stewart also beat Hyderabad FC’s Bartholomew Ogbeche, ATK Mohun Bagan’s Liston Colaco and Mumbai City FC’s Igor Angulo who were in contention for the December 2021 prize.
