Jamshedpur FC picked up their second successive win of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 with an impressive 3-1 victory over newcomers Hyderabad FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Tuesday. The win takes Jamshedpur to the summit of the league table with six points from two matches. Hyderabad, on the other hand, are yet to open their account

  • Farukh Choudhary gave Jamshedpur the lead in the 34th minute.
  • Marcelo Pereira equalised at the stroke of half-time for Hyderabad.
  • Aniket Jadhav scored his maiden Hero ISL goal to make it 2-1 in the 62nd minute.
  • Sergio Castel extended the home team’s advantage in the 75th minute.

The first big chance of the match fell the home side’s way eight minutes in, with Kamaljit Singh needing to make a save to keep out Isaac Vanmalsawma’s drive from distance. The Hyderabad captain got his fists to the effort, but not one strong enough to put the ball out of danger. Farukh attempted to follow up but Kamaljit recovered just in time to get a second touch and divert it away from the striker’s path.

Seconds later, the two were involved again. This time, Farukh timed his run perfectly to get on the end of a precise Mobashir Rahman pass from the deep. He only had Kamaljit to beat, but the Hyderabad man made himself big and affected a crucial save with his leg.

With Piti running the game from midfield and Farukh, Sergio Castel and Isaac making well-timed runs ahead of the Spaniard, Jamshedpur looked the most likely to score, as Hyderabad held on desperately.

The dominance finally paid off on the 34th minute. Piti received the ball, dropped a shoulder, drove into the box, and let one fly. With the power behind the strike, Kamaljit could only parry and Farukh was in the right spot at the right time to follow up and make it 1-0.

Jamshedpur created multiple chances but couldn’t convert them into a goal, and in the dying seconds of the first-half, were made to pay for their wastefulness. Much against the run of the game, Marcelo Pereira created space for himself inside the box and scored past Subrata Paul to bring Hyderabad level at 1-1 going into the break.

Soon after the restart, Hyderabad could have even taken the lead. The ball fell kindly for Robin Singh inside the Jamshedpur box but the danger was snuffed out just in time by the Jamshedpur defence before Robin could pull the trigger.

Post the chance, the home team took over the reins and should have taken the lead when Castel set it up on a platter for young Aniket Jadhav on the 59th minute, but the youngster couldn’t keep his diving header on target. Three minutes later, however, the 19-year-old made amends as he controlled Farukh’s cross inside the box and fired his shot into the corner, giving Kamaljit no chance. It was also the youngster’s maiden Hero ISL goal.

Things just got worse for Hyderabad as Castel scored a brilliant solo goal to make it 3-1 just 13 minutes later. The home team had multiple opportunities to increase their margin of victory but failed to do so as the match ended 3-1 in Jamshedpur’s favour.

Hero of the Match – Farukh Choudhary

The 22-year-old had a sensational outing, working hard for the team and even scoring the opening goal. He also set up Aniket for the second goal, laying his claim on the Hero of the Match award.
