Mumbai City FC have announced their fifth foreign signing ahead of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season with the capture of Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado.

The midfielder joins the side after previously representing Aves in the Portuguese Primera Liga. Machado began his career with the youth academy of Porto FC. The 32-year-old rose through the ranks and made his debut for the senior side under then head coach Jose Mourinho.

He would go on to play in the French Ligue 1 with sides such as Saint-Etienne and Toulouse and also represented Olympiacos and Dinamo Zagreb. With more than 50 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the Portuguese international comes in with a wealth of experience under his belt.

Under new head coach Jorge Costa, Machado will prove to be a valuable addition in midfield to the Islanders. Mumbai City kick-start their 2018-19 Hero ISL campaign with a home encounter against Jamshedpur on October 2.
