Adrian Luna was delighted with the support Kerala Blasters FC received from the fans as they beat Bengaluru FC 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kochi in the opening match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season
An own goal from Bengaluru FC midfielder Keziah Veendorp and a goal by Luna were enough to give the Blasters all three points on the opening day despite Curtis Main's late goal for the visitors.
The three points were exactly the gift the fans were hoping for from the team as they returned to action and they got what they were seeking for especially with the victory coming against arch-rivals Bengaluru FC.
Luna who played a big hand in the victory as he did on opening day last season, underlined the importance of the triumph.
"First game, first win, it was really important for us to start the season with a win and 3 points. It was important for us to make the fans happy and make sure that they go home happy. Now we are all focusing on the next game," he said after the match.
The Uruguayan midfielder was also praised the fans for the fantastic atmosphere at the stadium.
"It was amazing. The stadium was full of people who were cheering for us, chanting for us. I think they are going home happy because we won. We scored 2 goals. Unfortunately, we let 1 in but we got the 3 points. Thank you to all the fans who came today and I hope you come to the next game, we need you. We appreciate you coming here and cheering for us, thank you," the Uruguayan said.

Since his first stint in the ISL, Luna has put in solid performances on a consistent basis. He scored six goals and assisted seven times in his first season in the ISL while last season, he scored four goals and assisted six times. He scored in the opening game last season and this season he has started in a similar fashion. On scoring in back-to-back opening fixtures, the Kerala Blasters FC midfielder felt satisfied but said that he put the emphasis on winning the game rather than personal records
"I don't know if scoring in the opening fixtures is becoming like a tradition for me but it is always nice to score, especially when we win and when I can help the team get three points. I could do it in this match and I am happy for that. To be honest, I don't really think about my goals or assists, I only think of how to help my team get the three points and we did win today so I am happy for that," he concluded.
