FC Pune City picked up their first victory of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) here at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in a night of firsts as Kostas Katsouranis (42) and David Trezeguet (81) both scored their first goals of the tournament in Pune's first home game. The match started as a cagey affair with both teams realising the need for victory. Neither the hosts nor the visitors were comfortable in possession as the game ebbed and flowed through the first half. As the half progressed, it was the visitors who looked livelier and more capable of scoring. Andre Santos fired a warning shot with a pirouette and shot from just outside the area before seeing a diving header from a Bruno Pinheiro cross go wide. But in the 42nd minute, a clearance from header was put right back into the box and Katsouranis was on hand to get on the end and smash the ball into the net to send the home crowd into a frenzy. The score stayed the same till the break.Goa came out with intent in the second half as they pushed forward with purpose. Santos was easily the most efficient player for the visitors as he twice saw his shots ricochet off the crossbar and post. Pune and Bruno Cirillo in particular played an excellent game to deny Goa's attack. As the game continued, a long ball forward was chased by French striker and Pune’s marquee player Trezeguet. The ball looked well covered by central defender Gregory Arnolin who attempted a pass back to his goalkeeper but failed to put enough power on it as Trezeguet raced on and fired it into the net to double the hosts’ lead. With the introduction of Afghan international Zohib Amiri, FC Goa began to look more potent but it wasn't enough on the day to prevent another defeat.Zico will be furious with the defending on the second goal and his side's inability to score despite numerous chances. The Goa manager will have a lot of thinking to do ahead of his side's next match against Delhi Dynamos FC at home on November 1. Thrilled with their first win of the ISL, FC Pune City will be buoyant ahead of their next fixture against Kerala Blasters FC at home on October 30.
