FC Goa defender Jay Gupta has been adjudged the Emerging Player of the Month for October 2023, a prize awarded to the best young player in the Indian Super League (ISL) every month. The full-back has been in stellar form since making his league debut for the Gaurs against Punjab FC earlier in October.

Gupta was impressive in FC Goa’s win over Odisha FC, where he netted the winner late in stoppage time with a finish reminiscent of a seasoned forward. He was clinical against Bengaluru FC in the latest game, notching four shots on goal and registering four successful tackles, making him the first Indian player and the third player overall in ISL history to achieve such a feat in a single match. Over this period, the 22-year-old has also recorded 9 Tackles Won, 31 Possessions Won, and 23 Duels Won.

Gupta has effectively balanced both his attacking and defensive abilities, helping his team secure two clean sheets in four matches during October, in addition to making notable contributions in the attack.

The defender received eight out of eleven experts' votes as their top player, surpassing NorthEast United FC's Parthib Gogoi and Kerala Blasters FC's Sachin Suresh to win the award.

The young defender, who has been receiving regular playing time under the guidance of head coach Manolo Marquez, will now aim to make a greater impact in the ongoing season.
