Legendary Brazilian football player Arthur Antunes Coimbra, popularly known as Zico, has agreed to be the manager (head coach) of FC Goa which will represent the western coastal state in the Hero Indian Super League. The announcement was made by FC Goa late at night after Zico signed the contract in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Representatives of FC Goa will travel to Brazil shortly to help Zico complete the visa formalities and fly him down to Goa as soon as possible.The franchise owners Shrinivas Dempo, Dattaraj Salgaocar and Venugopal Dhoot expressed great happiness when welcoming Zico to FC Goa. They said that this was a proud moment for the franchise and they were honoured that a football legend of the stature of Zico had agreed to coach FC Goa.The 61-year-old former attacking midfielder is one of the legends of Brazilian and world football, famous for his sublime skills and sizzling free kicks. He took the Brazilian club Flamengo to great heights in his two spells there, besides also playing in Italy with Udinese and ending his career with Kashima Antlers in Japan.Zico was part of the fabulous Brazilian team also comprising Socrates, Falcao, Cerezo and Junior that was eliminated from the 1982 World Cup by eventual winners Italy in the knockout rounds.As a manager, he took Japan to the 2006 World Cup and also guided them to an Asian Cup victory in 2004. He has also managed major teams in Europe like Fenerbahce, CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos.
