Midfield maestro Edu Bedia signed a new deal that will keep him with FC Goa for another two years, the club confirmed on Monday. The Spanish midfielder has been a part of FC Goa since Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2017-18 and has opted to extend his stay with the Gaurs as he looks to add new chapters to his journey with last season’s league stage winners.

“I’m thrilled to continue my journey with FC Goa. It has been a wonderful experience for me so far, and I’m excited to be a part of the future of this team. I have had some great moments and want to achieve even more success during my time here,” Bedia said after signing a new deal with Goa.

The Spaniard has become an integral figure at the center of the park for Goa over the years. He made 18 appearances in Hero ISL 2017-18 – his debut campaign in India – and scored a goal as well as providing two assists. A tenacious tackler, Bedia is an all-round midfielder who is as comfortable fulfilling his defensive responsibilities as he is going forward.

His second season with Goa was his most successful in terms of numbers in the Hero ISL. The Spaniard had 12 goal contributions – seven goals and five assists – in 20 games in Hero ISL 2018-19 and finished as runners-up with Goa in that campaign after falling short in the final. However, he did win the Super Cup with the Gaurs a month later to get his hands on some silverware that season.

Hero ISL 2019-20 saw his game time reduced with injuries disrupting his campaign. That said, he still managed to find the back of the net once and also provided two assists as Goa finished as the league stage toppers and secured AFC Champions League group stage qualification, becoming the first team from India to do so.

FC Goa’s Director of Football, Ravi Puskur also shared his delight after announcing Bedia’s extension. “We are very pleased that Edu will be continuing with us. Edu has been a very important player for the team for a few years now and we are confident that he will remain a key component of the squad in the future as well. His quality is there for all to see, and hopefully he can help us add some more trophies to the FC Goa cabinet,” he said.

During his three seasons with the Gaurs, Bedia has made 51 appearances and scored nine goals while also providing nine assists for them.
