East Bengal lead the way in Week 3 of CFL

Barring a few compelling performances, it was a sombre third week for all the teams playing the Calcutta Premier League 2015-16 (Division A). Kolkata’s three giants – Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting cruised by, while it was an interesting week for some of the rising teams, especially Aryan Club who were table-toppers for a while.

A performance to be cited would be that of ex-NorthEast United FC attacking midfielder Do Dong-Hyun. His exceptional performance this past week, which included successive braces, helped the Red and Gold brigade clinch a thriller against Army XI (3-2) and a victory against city rivals Mohammedan Sporting (2-1). The Korean import received quite a lot of assistance from Cavin Lobo (Kerala Blasters FC) and ex-Atlético de Kolkata player Mohammed Rafique.

Mohun Bagan had a resounding victory against BNR (3-0) which saw goals from ex-FC Pune City forward Dudu Omagbemi and skipper Katsumi Yusa. Yusa has been an indomitable force for the Green and Maroons with him scoring a brace, setting up plays as well as controlling the reins of the team.

Last year’s CFL title winners, East Bengal, top the table at the end of Week 3, with Mohammedan Sporting and Aryan Club following suit. BNR, meanwhile, languish at the bottom with 6 losses out of 7 games.
