Durand Cup 2025: NorthEast United FC and Shillong Lajong renew rivalry in semi-final
The Highlanders, high on confidence, eye a second consecutive Durand Cup final.

Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC will lock horns with Shillong Lajong FC in the first semi-final of the Durand Cup 2025 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, on Tuesday.
The fixture is a repeat of last year’s semi-final and also their second meeting in this year’s competition. On both occasions, the Highlanders emerged victorious, cruising to a dominant 3-0 win in last year’s semi-final and battling to a hard-fought 2-1 success in the group stage this time.
NEUFC come into the clash high on confidence after a resounding 4-0 victory over Bodoland FC in the quarter-finals. Following a 2-2 draw with Rangdajied United in the group stages, head coach Juan Pedro Benali reverted to his strongest XI, and his men made light work of the Kokrajhar-based side. Moroccan striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie was once again the star, scoring twice to take his tally to seven goals and one assist, putting him at the top of the Golden Boot race.
Shillong Lajong, meanwhile, progressed to the knockouts as one of the best second-placed teams, thanks to two convincing group-stage wins. They returned to winning ways in the quarter-finals with a spirited comeback against Indian Navy FT. The I-League side will look to spring a surprise against their ISL opponents, but Benali’s men will be determined to stay ruthless and secure back-to-back appearances in the Durand Cup final.
