The Durand Cup group stage is approaching its business end.  The quarter-finals are finalised after a thrilling group stage round. Six Indian Super League (ISL) teams have secured their place in the quarter-finals.

As we head into the final week of the group stage, we take a look at the group-wise qualification scenarios and the tie-breaker rules in case two or more teams finish level on points. 

Tie-breakers

1) Head-to-head record

2) Goal Difference 

3) If both H2H and GD are same, then it goes to goals scored

4) If Goals scored is also same,  then Goal against (whoever has conceded lesser Goals)

5) If that's the same, then yellow cards and Red cards received. Teams with better disciplinary record goes through

6) If that's the same , then it will be a 'toss' to decide

Scenarios: 

East Bengal FC: Carles Cuadrat's team delivered a remarkable performance in their last two group-stage matches. They secured victories against both the ISL and I-League champions, bouncing back from a disappointing 2-2 draw against Bangladesh Army in the opening match. As a result, with seven points, the Red and Gold topped Group A and secured their place in the quarter-finals.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant: 
The Mariners have advanced to the quarter-finals as one of the two best second-placed teams in the competition, having overtaken Mohammedan SC due to a superior goal difference.

Bangladesh Army: Winless in their three matches, Bangladesh Army are eliminated from the competition. 

Punjab FC: With only one point in their bag, Punjab FC have been eliminated from the Durand Cup 2023.

Mumbai City FC: With three wins in three matches, the Islanders have qualified for the next round as the group topper.

Mohammedan SC:Despite securing a blistering 6-0 victory against Jamshedpur FC in their final game and having six points in the bag, the I-League team are eliminated from the competition due to goal difference.

Jamshedpur FC: Steven Dias' side are eliminated following a heavy defeat to Mohammedan SC.

Indian Navy: The Indian Navy have been eliminated following their narrow defeat to Jamshedpur FC.

NorthEast United FC: A remarkable 3-1 comeback victory against Downtown Heroes in the final game ensures that the Highlanders have secured their place in the quarter-finals as one of the two best second-placed teams.

Shillong Lajong: With just three points from their three games, Lajong are out of contention for a place in the last eight. 

Downtown Heroes: The team from Kashmir are eliminated from the competition.

Indian Army: The Indian Army have took the pole position in Group F. They finished with seven points.

Rajasthan United FC: Rajasthn United FC failed to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Durand Cup for a second year running. A win against Indian Army could've secured their place in the playoffs. 

Bodoland FC: The Assam-based side are out of the tournament with three points from three games. 

Odisha FC: A defeat in the final game against Bodoland FC means Odisha FC are eliminated from the Durand Cup.
