Indian Super League (ISL) side Chennaiyin FC have announced that midfielder Mobashir Rahman has joined the club on loan from East Bengal FC, keeping him with the Marina Machans until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The 25-year-old becomes the first player to join the Marina Machans during this winter transfer window. Rahman joined the Red and Gold Brigade last season and made 13 appearances. However, his game time was limited this season, and he has so far made only one appearance in the league.

The midfielder will now hope for more playing time at his new club, where he will be reuniting with his former head coach, Owen Coyle. His versatility and experience of playing under Coyle will be valuable to the head coach, adding options to the midfield.

Speaking on the occasion the Scotsman said, “Rahman is a wonderful talent and has proven himself at the top stage for Jamshedpur FC and East Bengal FC. I have worked with him previously during my time at Jamshedpur FC and know his quality on the field. He is a valuable addition to our midfield and we are excited to work with him for the remainder of the season.”

Reflecting on the occasion Rahman said, “I am excited to join two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC and looking forward to working under the guidance of head coach Owen Coyle once again, who has helped me to improve my game in the past as well. I hope to give my best for the team, working hard day in and day out to help the club achieve its goal for the season ahead and make our fans happy.

Chennaiyin FC currently sit in seventh place in the ISL, having garnered 12 points from 12 matches. They are set to commence their Super Cup campaign on Thursday against Punjab FC.
