Chennaiyin FC made everyone sit up and take notice in their third pre-season friendly, as they trounced the Indian Army football team 7-1. Eduardo Silva and Bernard Mendy both bagged a brace, as Abhishek Das, Cristian Gonzalez and Jaison Vales also got onto the score sheet.Their resounding victory came after a closely contested game between the two teams on the 27th of September. That game had ended 2-1 to Chennaiyin, with Silva scoring the opener and Cristian Gonzalez netting the winner.Today’s match, though, was completely one-sided as the Chennaiyin players seemed to be a lot more acquainted with each other. The game, played in Bengaluru, was off to a quick start as Chennaiyin scored two goals in five minutes through their pre-season top scorer Silva, who has scored three goals in two games. The Army side responded well as they pulled one back, but Das quashed any chances of a comeback as he found the net to restore their two-goal lead. The floodgates had now opened, as Gonzalez scored the fourth, before Chennaiyin were awarded a penalty which was converted by Mendy. He scored his second of the game shortly after to make it 6-1, and winger Vales came on and added one more to round off proceedings. With this match being only their second as a team, the Chennai outfit seem to be linking up well and will look to maintain and improve on their chemistry as they prepare for the Hero ISL that begins in less than two weeks.
