Atlético de Kolkata have signed up Bangladesh skipper Mamunul Islam up for the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). A signing ceremony took place in Dhaka over the weekend. The central midfielder is also the captain of Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, whom he has been representing for the past five years. “This is an important milestone in my career. I am really excited about joining Atlético de Kolkata, the team that will transgress boundaries and bring both sides of Bengal closer,” said Islam, who had helped his club team reach the final of the IFA Shield in Kolkata earlier this year.The signing event was attended by Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin, and Manjur Kader, president of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, among others. “This is a brilliant opportunity for Mamunul and we are ecstatic about this development. When he takes the field for Atlético de Kolkata he will carry the passion of fans from entire Bangladesh,” said Kader.Atlético de Kolkata are currently training at the Los Angeles de San Rafael facility in Segovia, Spain. The team, co-owned by former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, will take on Mumbai City FC in the opening fixture of the inaugural ISL at the Salt Lake Stadium on Oct 12.
