Owen Coyle believes his side would continue to get better in the coming matches as Jamshedpur FC played a 1-1 draw against Hyderabad FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim on Thursday.
Jamshedpur FC dominated the early proceedings. In the 20th minute, Greg Stewart made a run into the box, dropped a shoulder to come inside and took a shot which hit the pole. Twenty minutes later, he skipped past a couple of players inside the edge of the box and slotted the ball in the top right corner, leaving Laxmikanth Kattimani with no chance.
However, ten minutes into the second half, Bartholomew Ogbeche produced a moment of magic to cancel out the lead. From there on, the match was evenly contested with either team failing to score again.
JFC had eight shots at goal in the match, and only one of them was on target.
On the backdrop of Jamshedpur FC’s draw versus Hyderabad FC, coach Coyle spoke to the media during the official post-match press conference.
Here are the excerpts from the press conference.
Will you consider it as two points dropped considering the dominance the team showed in the first half?
I think we could have been a couple of goals up at halftime. They only had one chance in the form of a free header from the corner. Over the period we should have got the three points. With that being said, when you have Ogbeche on the field, if you give him a little bit of margin he will score, as he did. I don’t think Rehenesh had a lot to do in the game. But it’s another game unbeaten, probably should have got more points. I think we will continue to get better as we move forward.
The Hyderabad FC coach mentioned that it was the worst 45 minutes of his time at HFC. Would you take it as a compliment?
Yes I will. I have known him for a long time. Sometimes you don’t play well because the opposition don’t allow you to play well. We pressed high and played with high intensity. So yeah it’s a compliment that we worked hard and we need to continue to do the same.
Last time you said we haven’t seen the best of Greg Stewart. Did we see his best today or is there more to come?
I think there’s more to come from him. I still don’t think he is at his maximum. He had few niggles coming into the season. But everyday he is working so hard. We saw wonderful qualities from him today. He has got good passing as well. He is a team player and he will be important for us moving forward.
Will we see the rotation between Peter Hartley and Eli Sabia?
No, the skipper was unwell for the last couple of days. So there’s a chance two of them might play together. It’s about getting the balance. We have Jordan Murray missing today due to an injury. So there’s real competition for places. It’s a headache for the coach but I would rather have that.
