Bengaluru FC cruised to a 4-1 victory over Delhi Dynamos FC in the tenth match of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. With goals from Erik Paartalu, Lenny Rodrigues and Miku, the win was their second on the trot, as they now lead the league table.
Speaking to the media in the post-match press conference was their delighted head coach, Albert Roca, who was all praises for his team. “I am really happy for sure,” he gushed. “We had some chances to open the game with set pieces, and we took advantage today. The team was really faultless. We had the press on them, we were winning the ball back quickly, and we created quite a few chances. I am happy with that because I think from the beginning to end, we were really superior, and that’s the way we want to follow.”
He also shed light on the strategy Bengaluru followed against Delhi, that reaped great dividends. “I think today we have done a good job of pressing well,” he revealed. “But yes, it’s not easy, because when we press, we spend a lot of energy. We know that we have a game ahead in only four days (against FC Goa), so we had to reserve some energy and went a little bit more defensive. But we also tried to not let them build-up so easily. I think we did well in the second half too and did not let them create many chances.”
The table toppers now will gear up for three away fixture back-to-back but Roca seemed to warm up to the difficult task. “I would like to play the same way in away games as we played here. It’s not easy for sure. At home, we know we have the support, and the fans are cheering for us, but similarly, it could be the same for others when we play away. As a coach, I would like to play just the same way, but it’s impossible to always do that. Even if I prepare them as much as possible, there is also the feeling that you are playing away under different circumstances. Three games away, but we will still try to play our way, and get some points,” he concluded.
