Jamshedpur FC have confirmed the capture of 31-year-old Spanish midfielder, Aitor Monroy Rueda on a one-year deal. The club made the announcement on Thursday, officially adding another exciting name to their Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 squad.

Rueda last represented Inter de Madrid, a club which plays their football in the third division of Spanish top-flight football. Despite only signing for the club at the end of January this year, the central midfielder still managed to make 19 appearances for them, although he failed to score any goal.

Rueda spent his entire youth career playing for Alcalá, another Spanish club. In 2005, he made the jump and signed for cross-city giants Atlético Madrid. Rueda appeared for the B and C teams of the Los Rojiblancos, but could never make it to the first team. Following a two-year spell with another Spanish club, the midfielder moved out of the country, signing for Romanian outfit, Ceahlăul.

He spent three years at the club, scoring his only senior professional goal to date for them. Rueda then earned an upgrade in 2014, moving to CFR Cluj, a club that more often than not, appears in the UEFA Champions League. He went on to make 27 appearances for them.

In the next three years, the midfielder represented Moldovan outfit, Sheriff and Israeli side, Maccabi Petah Tikva, with the latter being a more involved experience for him. He returned to Romania in 2018, but couldn’t find his best form, making just nine combined appearances while playing for Dinamo București and Dunărea Călărași. That prompted a return to his native Spain earlier this year.

The presence of multiple Spaniards in the Jamshedpur squad will help Rueda settle and adapt to the league better. The club’s recent style of play is also quite similar to the way the midfielder has operated through most of his career, making his transition potentially seamless.

"I am thrilled to be joining Jamshedpur FC," expressed Rueda after completing his move. "It is a great opportunity to play in a unique country like India and I am particularly looking forward to playing for the fans in Jamshedpur. The Indian Super League is a massive tournament. I am ready to give all my energy and passion to help Jamshedpur FC lift the ISL trophy.”

Jamshedpur FC CEO, Mr. Mukul Choudhari also exclaimed his delight on the capture, stating, “In Aitor, we have signed a player who is proven in the game. He has good experience and wants to keep on growing. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season.”
