February 24, 2022, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: India has been slotted in Group D of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers alongside Hong Kong, Afghanistan, and Cambodia.

India will host all the matches from its group. The matches will be held across three Match Days on June 8, 11, and 14, 2022. The 2023 AFC Asian Cup is set to kickoff on June 16, 2023.

The host nation, India, are ranked highest among the other teams in the group. They rank 104 in the world according to the latest FIFA rankings. Whereas their opponents, Hong Kong ranks at 148, Afghanistan at 150, and Cambodia at 178 in the world.

India finished third in the Group E of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers third round. Afghanistan finished just below India in the same group. Hong Kong ended their 2022 World Qualifier campaign at fourth position in Group C. Cambodia finished below Hong Kong at fifth position.

Winner of the six groups and five second-placed teams will qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, China. India will aim to qualify for their second consecutive AFC Asian Cup.

China PR, Australia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea Republic, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and United Arab Emirates and Vietnam have already booked their place in the mega event.
