NorthEast United FC take on FC Goa at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday in what’s expected to be a tough home fixture for the Highlanders. Both teams are currently on four points and will be looking to consolidate their league positions by earning a positive result.

The spotlight will most likely be on NorthEast’s defence against Goa’s potent attack force and one of their defenders, Wayne Vaz spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview ahead of the clash. Here are the excerpts.

On securing a win in your NorthEast United FC debut.

It has been satisfying so far, but I want to work harder and prove myself in the next match, because every game is different. So, it is a good opportunity and I am looking forward to proving myself in the next match.

On the defensive talents at NorthEast United FC.

The defensive talent here is really good and balanced. We have experienced foreigners in Kai (Heerings) and (Mislav) Komorski. Kai and Komorski have played in Europe. Reagan (Singh) at right-back has also been here for five years. He’s played in the I-league and the Hero Indian Super League. Rakesh (Pradhan) and I, we are upcoming players so there is a real good balance.

Who is the best striker you’ve faced in the Hero ISL?

So far, we've played only two games and I think Bengaluru FC had a better strike force. But the conditions in Bangalore were too harsh with a lot of rain and the ground was a little heavy. But we are looking forward to face FC Goa. They have Coro (Ferran Corominas), (Edu) Bedia, (Ahmed) Jahouh, so I think our next match is going to be a real tough one.

On NorthEast United FC’s game plan for the FC Goa clash?

The best form of defence is to attack and we are not going to hold back here in Guwahati. We are going to go for the three points.
