FC Goa’s scintillating 2-1 victory over Delhi Dynamos FC, the first in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) campaign, set off wild celebrations at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Saturday. And it was no surprise to see an ecstatic Varun Dhawan run out to greet the players after the stirring comeback by the home team. Speaking exclusively to www.indiansuperleague.com after the match, the Bollywood actor and brand ambassador of the Goan side touched upon what brought them luck tonight and why he wanted to be associated with this ISL team.Varun, this is your first match of the season and your team's first victory. What are your thoughts?I'm really happy today. I went out on the field and hugged all the players. And they told me that I should be here for every game.Do you think you're their lucky charm then? No, no! I don't want to say that. It's their hard work, it's Zico's coaching, it's Robert Pirès' leadership, a lot of things collectively. This (victory) was a long time coming. The team has been deserving of a win and it has finally happened.Have you watched FC Goa's earlier games?Yes, of course! We've not been able to finish in previous matches. But today, we finished (well). Will you be attending the rest of the games? That added pressure is always on. But I'll always be there. Even if not in person, I'm there at every game in spirit. Now that you’ve secured a win, what are your team's objectives for the tournament? That we grow, that we qualify for the final four. I think we've just started. There's still time. We can make up ground. We are not out of contention yet. If we win our next couple of matches, we can be right on top.Who and what impressed you most in the game today?Jewel Raja! He played amazingly well today. I think André Santos too. Unfortunately, he got injured. The aggressive game play was good. We had possession throughout and we didn't let Delhi Dynamos dominate even once – even though we were a goal down. And we kept pressing ahead.Zohib Islam Amiri came in place of Santos and had a really good game...Really good game! And I don't think anyone thought that could happen. Even when Alessandro Del Piero came on! Because of how big a player he is, it's easy for the opposition to get pressurised. But Goa started playing better when he came on.Goa have been playing well in the ISL but they just haven't got the results going their way...It was all about the finishing tonight. And I also must hand it out to the fans. They were simply amazing! You have two young wingers in Mandar Rao Desai and Romeo Fernandes. What are your thoughts about them? The fact that they are Indian and the way they played – that is really good! Both are from Goa. They didn't let the team down. When young blood rises and you have the leadership of Zico and Pirès, these are the reasons I want to be associated with FC Goa.So Pirès' absence today wasn't really felt?He was biting his nails up there! I had a conversation with him and he's definitely there for the next match. He's really fired up!
