Jharkhand’s first Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match ended in a goalless draw, as the home team Jamshedpur FC failed to score for a third time in a row, this time against the defending champions ATK at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday. ATK played out their second draw of Hero ISL 2017-18 on an uneven pitch and are yet to win a match. Making his first start for ATK this season was Robin Singh, who made an impression upfront but failed to find the back of the net. After the evenly-contested match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the 27-year old to hear his views on the encounter. Here are the excerpts.
Your thoughts on the match against Jamshedpur?
It was difficult, especially with a pitch like this. It’s going to be difficult for anyone who comes here, not only us. But we surely need to score soon.
What do you think about your personal performance?
There’s always room for improvement. There’s a lot of things we need to work on. We will go back to the training field to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
What did you make of your battle with the Jamshedpur centre-backs?
I am always up for a battle. It was a good fight, always looking for more.
What do you think of Jamshedpur, who hosted their first Hero ISL match tonight?
It was a packed stadium even when we were warming up. Hats off to Jamshedpur. I’ve come back here after 11 years and it felt good to be back. Definitely, looking for my goals again.
You were associated with the Tata Football Academy (TFA) here. Anything you want to share?
It’s a brilliant system. Most of the players have come from here into the Indian fraternity. All the best to them. Thank you for making me the player that I am. Good luck to the boys there, right now.
How is Teddy Sheringham different from other coaches?
Off the field, he is a great personality. On the field as well. He’s always open to questions, always wanting more from you on the pitch. When you’re a player you want to be pushed and with a coach like Teddy, you are being pushed. It’s an honour to play for him.
ATK is the most successful team in Hero ISL but not the best of starts this season. Your thoughts on the same?
There are loads of things to work on. That’s what the technical staff is there for and the guys are ready to work hard.
