Bengaluru FC succumbed to their first home loss of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 after Chennaiyin FC won 2-1 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. The Blues fell behind early in the game but managed to find an equaliser through skipper Sunil Chhetri. Dhanpal Ganesh’s late winner though broke Bengaluru hearts as the visitors secured maximum points and went level on points with Bengaluru and FC Goa at the top of the table. Bengaluru defender Rahul Bheke spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the final whistle and shared his thoughts on the game. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Your thoughts on the game?
It was a disappointing game for us. We switched off for both goals, especially the second one. We should have focused more during set pieces and we conceded very soon after scoring so it was a really disappointing home game for us.
Any positives to take away from the game?
We lost this game. Now, we must rectify our errors and we must go to our next game and not make the same mistakes we made tonight. We need to go with a positive mindset into the next game and hope for a better result.
Did the team miss Erik Paartalu?
He (Erik) is an important member of our team, mainly because of his physicality on the field but every player is important for us. So, maybe he will be back for the next game to help us win.
Message for the fans?
I just want to apologise to our fans. I am sorry for the loss. This was our first loss at home this season. We will try our best to win our next game and get the three points.
