Penn Orji scored the only goal of the night to help Kerala Blasters FC emerge victorious against Delhi Dynamos FC in the capital city on Sunday night. The Nigerian central midfielder, who was initially appointed skipper of the southern side, has now scored two goals in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) so far, coming off the bench on both occasions.Orji has been playing in India since the noughties, having started off with JCT in the Punjab and then moving on to East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting in Kolkata. Having won titles such as the Federation Cup, IFA Shield and Super Cup with the ‘red & golds’ under the tutelage of current Kerala Blasters assistant coach Trevor Morgan, Orji will be hoping to win greater laurels with his new outfit. He caught up with indiansuperleague.com for an exclusive conversation after the match: How did it feel to score and win the game today?I feel really happy because the team needed the three points to stay in a comfortable spot on the table. I scored off the bench so I’m very happy especially because the team won. What did David (James) tell you at half-time?The message that I got at half-time was that we should be more direct in our attack.Who do you look up to for inspiration in the team?Michael Chopra! He’s been great in training, even when he’s out of action he’s encouraging the boys. He’s teaching us to do the right thing because he’s experienced at the top level. Trevor Morgan also, he’s been a great inspiration, he’s encouraged us when needed. What is David’s philosophy for the team? His philosophy is just ‘win the game’."Apart from winning the trophy, I want to exhibit my talent."Penn OrjiDo you think David can manage the team as well as be a marquee player and goalkeeper?Well, so far he’s trying because this is his first experience at playing and managing a team. So far he’s been great! How do you feel about the quality of the players playing in the ISL?I think they’re top class. When you have six foreigners on both sides that makes it 12; it makes the game much more mature and competitive.Do you have any personal goals for the ISL?Apart from winning the trophy, I want to exhibit my talent because the ISL is being televised worldwide and I want to sell myself as a player. To watch Penn Orji's match-winning goal, click here.
