Mumbai City FC will need to produce a miracle to progress to the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 final when they take on FC Goa in the second leg of their semi-final encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Tuesday. With a 5-1 deficit from the first leg to overturn, the Islanders need to score at least five goals in order to have any chance to play the final at Mumbai Football Arena on March 17.

Before the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Mumbai striker Modou Sougou for an interview. Here are the excerpts.

Though Mumbai City FC scored first in the first leg, what went wrong thereafter?

I think we started the match very well because we had a plan before and that's what we did at the start of the match. Obviously, we scored and we deserved that because, at that moment, we were better than FC Goa. Unfortunately, in the second half, it was the contrary. I don't have an explanation for that. We need more experience because what we forgot is that the match wasn't just 90 minutes. When we were down in the second half, it was better to keep the result so that we have more of a chance in the second leg.

Do you consider the tie to be over after the 5-1 result?

We have to be ready. It will be very difficult. I think the God of football will have to be very generous on us. To win 5-0 away against FC Goa (is quite a task). If you see our history, we have played against them three times and every time we had a problem against them. We are expecting a tough match but mathematically, you don't know what will happen. Even if it's 1%, we have to defend it. We have to be professional. We have to do our work and let's see what happens. But, it will be very difficult.

Thoughts on fellow countryman Mourtada Fall's performance in the last match.

He is a good player. Whenever I see him play, I can see that he is very experienced because he didn't give me any space for 90 minutes.

Do you think Mumbai City FC can score the goals needed to turn the tie around?

We have to be focussed on our collective work. The teamwork has to be very good. We need all the players but we need a lot of goals, too. If I can score, okay, but we need goals. For us, it is not important who will score but we have to take our chance. It will be very difficult, but first, we have to save our honour because losing 5-1 was very heavy. We need to have a good match. Even if we win 1-0, 2-0, step by step and that is how we can believe in this match. For me, in my mind, I am ready. My teammates are ready too.
