In a game punctuated by many “firsts”, Chennaiyin FC striker Balwant Singh became the first Indian to score in the Hero Indian Super League, helping to ensure that the first game of legendary Italian defender Marco Materazzi’s managerial career resulted in victory. The two were in celebratory mood at the post-match conference, as first Materazzi and then Singh addressed the media. Here are some excerpts from the media interaction that followed...Marco MaterazziWhat were your thoughts on the match?First ten minutes were difficult but after that we played well. Thanks to Balwant and Elano for scoring the goalsHow difficult did you think the game was?It wasn't easy as you know we didn’t have much time to train but as I said earlier, I have a team of professionals both in the playing and support staff. They fought for each other and got us the three points.Did you set out with a physical gameplan to combat the threat of Robert Pirès? Pires played in England so he is used to such physical challenges. It's normal in a football game. Will the team be even better when you decide to play yourself? We won without me, so I don't think the team needs me! Balwant SinghHow does it feel to be the first Indian to score in the history of the ISL?It is an absolute honour to become the first Indian scorer in the Hero ISL. You always have to work hard to get into the team because there are so many quality foreigners. So I think my hard work paid off. I would like to thank my coaches and family. What did you think about the electrifying atmosphere in Goa?The crowds were great for the home side and it was a great feeling to play in such a great atmosphere but we didn't feel any pressure. Me and my teammates just focused on the performance.
