NorthEast United FC ended their four-match losing streak with a 2-1 win against a formidable FC Goa side at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday. Marcinho and Seiminlen Doungel combined to gift the Highlanders their first home victory of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18, cancelling out Manuel Arana’s first-half equaliser. Post a high-octane 90 minutes, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the goal-scorers from NorthEast for their thoughts on the match. Here are the excerpts.
Marcinho, your thoughts on the match?
I think that we did what the coach asked us to do. We played simple and worked hard. That is why we have gotten these three points today.
Your thoughts on your opening goal?
In the last two games, I hit the post but the ball went out. Today, I struck the post twice but the ball went in. I am so happy because today is my son’s birthday and I scored this goal for him.
Seiminlen, your thoughts on NorthEast’s second on the night and your first Hero ISL goal?
First of all, I want to congratulate the whole team because we played as a team. I want to thank Marcinho who passed the ball and I delivered it pretty well.
Marcinho, how big was the impact of Avram Grant for the team?
You can see how big (his impact) was on the field because we won. That is the difference. Before we lost and now we won.
And thoughts on your goalkeeper TP Rehenesh’s performance?
Today, the whole team worked hard and played well. So, congratulations to them.
