Marcelinho: We are like a family that wins and loses together

Marcelinho will be raring to get on pitch and redeem himself when Delhi Dynamos FC host FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. The Brazilian winger, who has been one of the Lions’ biggest threats in Hero Indian Super League 2016 with three goals and two assists so far, missed a penalty in Delhi’s 1-0 loss to Atlético de Kolkata last time around. He has also completed four successful take-ons and eight key passes in five matches for Delhi this season, making him one of the players to watch out for on Thursday. The 29-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of the clash against the Stallions. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

It’s been a tough last few matches for Delhi. How is the team spirit like in the dressing-room?

I think it is not a problem. We have played several games and have tried our best, but at times, we have struggled to score. However, we are trying our best and have just one loss until now, which is not too bad.

Personally, your form has been very good, you have been one of the key players for Delhi Dynamos FC. Do you have any personal achievement you have set yourself?

No. I play for the team. I will keep doing what the coach needs me to do and tells me. I will continue giving my best for the club. Sometimes I might score, sometimes I might assist. I hope to keep continuing and give more for the club to get to the final.

In the last match after playing really well you missed the penalty for your team and the opponent went on to win the game. As a player, how do you cope with a situation like this?

For me it has been a very difficult situation. I always think about it. But I look to the positive points of the game and I won’t forget the game. I need one victory to help forget the match.

For Thursday’s game against FC Pune City, how is the morale? What does the coach have to say?

The morale is very good. We are like a family. We lose together and win together. We know what we want and we know our coach’s points and we are strong.
