FC Goa continued their unbeaten streak in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 after comprehensively beating Mumbai City FC by a 4-2 scoreline at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. Goa took a two-goal lead in the first-half but a confident display by the home side ensured that Mumbai drew level by the 55th minute. However, the Gaurs then rallied and scored two more to clinch all three points from the contest.

FC Goa’s Lenny Rodrigues, who scored the opener, shared his thoughts about his first goal for Goa and the match in an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com. Here are excerpts.

Lenny, what a start to the match with you scoring the opening goal. Tell us what went through your mind?

Firstly, I’m very happy that we won the match and got the three points. It’s not about me scoring, it’s about the team… it’s for the team.

How did the team improve and fight back after Mumbai equalised?

We always stick to the coach’s plans. The way we played, keeping the ball, it’s our style. We will keep doing that.

How does scoring your first goal for FC Goa feel?

I’m so happy and excited. This goal is for the fans who came here from Goa.

This is the third club you have scored for in Hero ISL history. How do you feel?

I’m very happy. I just want to keep myself fit and give my best in every match.

Meanwhile, Sarthak Golui, who opened the scoring for Mumbai in the second half, shared his thoughts on the loss.

Sarthak, tough game but end to end stuff. Talk us through the match.

It’s disappointing that we lost the game. After coming back from two nil down, it was unfortunate that we lost this match after fighting so hard.

Thoughts on your goal.

I’m disappointed because it doesn’t matter if I score and we lose.

Any message for the fans after two back-to-back home losses?
