Juanan: Pleased with my goal, but happier with the win
Bengaluru FC came storming back after going a man down to beat FC Goa 3-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Thursday. Nishu Kumar’s sending-off rocked the Blues late in the first-half, but an inspired second-half performance saw them leapfrog the Gaurs at the top of the table.
After the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with one of the goal-scorers from tonight’s match, Juanan. Here are a few excerpts.
How does it feel to be back on top of the table?
Yes, it was a very important match because after the last two matches that we lost I think it’s a good result for the team before the semi-finals against a good team, a hard team, too much quality in the front, a good team tactically as well. I think Bengaluru FC today worked very well. After the red card to play with 10 men is not easy but the team continued to work hard.
What did Carles Cuadrat say at half-time?
Continue with the same mentality because the team didn’t change in defense. It was the same two lines of four and Miku in the front. Miku worked very well, fought with the whole defense and after that Udanta Singh was very fast and the whole team in defense did good work, close with the passes and going forward as well. I think today was a good match.
How enjoyable was it to score that goal?
Yes, it was very important because this is my first goal here this season but the more important is not the goal. I’m happy but I’m happier about the three points.
From Goa’s end, Mandar Rao Dessai shared his thoughts on the loss. Here are the excerpts:
Thoughts on the match.
Disappointing second half, I think. We switched off in some parts of the match and we conceded some silly goals. I think we have to work on this and as I said before, this match was also important for us like each and every match. Next match will be important also. So, we work hard for the next match.
Thoughts on the missed chances.
Yes, even when we conceded goals, I thought we could make it. We missed some easy chances. I think if we had converted those chances then it would be a different result but no problem, we have to take these results and go home and work on the next one.
Do you think playing against 10 men made the team complacent?
Yes, I think in the second half, as I said before, we switched off in some moments that caused us to lose.
Thoughts on the last league match against Chennaiyin FC.
Yes, I think we have to work hard. It’s not that easy because Chennaiyin FC have been performing well. Let’s see we have a break for some days and then we get ready for the next match.
