ATK and Delhi Dynamos FC face-off in a crucial fixture in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. After four consecutive losses, midfielder Jeroen Lumu feels that Delhi have been unlucky so far and have to turn around their fortunes around at Kolkata. Speaking with indiansuperleague.com before the match, the Dutchman shared his thoughts on the upcoming game and his tryst with football. Here are the excerpts.
How has your experience been in India?
So far, it’s a good experience. It’s a good league, good matches and a good competition.
How did football start for you?
When I was four, I started at a local club and then I went to Willem II. When I was 16, I signed my first professional contract and from there it all started.
You come from Holland, who are known for their ‘Total Football’. Your coach also plays a possession-based game. How similar or different are the two styles?
It’s almost the same, you know because you start from the back and try to play forward. It’s the same kind of football.
Delhi haven’t had the best of starts so what is the mood like in the camp right now?
We are still in the same mood but we’re more focussed on the upcoming games. We want to win. It’s a must now.
Do you feel luck has not been on Delhi’s side?
There’s not much luck on our side. I felt we really deserved to win our last game. I hope luck comes our way in the next game.
ATK also haven’t had the greatest of starts. Do you think this is a good time to play them?
We’re not scared of any opponent. Like I said, we have to win this game so we will give everything.
