Chennaiyin FC edged FC Goa 1 – 0 in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Thursday. Inigo Calderon’s opportunistic goal handed the visitors all three points as the 2015 Hero ISL champions climbed to third spot on the table. The Spanish defender spoke to indiansuperleague.com post-match and shared his thoughts regarding the game. Here are the excerpts.

Tell us your thoughts on the win.

Well I think it was an important game, important three points for us. I think we did very, very well in the first half. In the second half, we managed to score the first goal and after that we had to defend and it became complicated when they got a few chances. They had nothing to lose and they got a couple of chances. It became really, really tough along with a few hitting the crossbar but I think… sometimes it happens.

What was the mind-set after a goalless first half?

I think we were doing very, very well and I don’t think they had any chance in the first half and the credit goes to the entire team because against this team it is complicated to keep our concentration and we knew that we had to keep doing the same. The point is that after we score, we stopped playing and we have to learn from that. It is better to learn when you are winning.

Talk us through the goal.

It wasn’t the best goal of my life. I was there when Jeje (Lalpekhlua) put through that cross. I don’t know what happened after it and I just know that the ball was in the back of the net and that is the most important thing for me.

Do you think you’ve almost qualified for the playoffs now?

No, we’re not showing that. I don’t have anything to say on it and we’ve got to recover really quickly because in three days, we’ve got another tough game and until we’re not there, I won’t say anything.
