Iain Hume made his debut for FC Pune City on Wednesday, coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute in place of Robin Singh. The striker's return turned out to be a lucky one for the Stallions, who claimed their first victory of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune. Hume's appearance also made him the only foreign player to feature in all five seasons of the Hero ISL.

After the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the striker for an exclusive post-match interview. Here are the excerpts.

Thoughts on your first match for FC Pune City.

I think it was exactly what we needed. We have not put in any more effort. The guys have worked hard throughout the season and this is just the little stroke of luck (we needed). I think we defended very well for 90 minutes against a very good Jamshedpur FC side who keep the ball very well. But tonight was our night and we deserved it.

Do you think this where the season will turn?

I hope so. We have been talking about this from the start. We just needed that stroke of luck. We needed a little bit to move in our direction and tonight it did. I think our defence was brilliant against their mobile front three. I think we nullified their possession game and they tried to keep the ball and they were fine keeping the ball in front of us, but we did everything we planned on doing. Whether it is a turning point or not? I hope so, but we have to keep working as hard as we did today.

Thoughts on playing against Jamshedpur FC and ending their unbeaten run.

They're a good side. We did the scouting before the game and they're a good side. They have brought in the Spanish ethos and they try to keep the ball. Their defence is quite strong and they don't concede many goals but tonight, everything went in our favour. We worked hard and the goal, we deserved. They were missing a couple of players tonight but that is not our problem. We got the three points which were desperately needed and we move on.

A message for the fans.

It's great to play here. I know they have had a rough time so far this season and tonight we won the game. So, I understand the disappointment in the team but they're here. They have been supporting us and they went mental when we scored as much as we did. I think that is the most I have seen (Matt) Mills celebrate a goal and let alone the fans. So, it was an all-around performance and we gave them what they deserved.
