Atlético de Kolkata beat Chennaiyin FC 2-1 in the second leg of their Hero Indian Super League semi-final clash at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday. However, they crashed out of the league on account of an inferior aggregate score that read 4-2 in favour of the Super Machans who won the first leg in Pune 3-0. Iain Hume, who scored through a stunning volley on the night after combining with Dejan Lekic, spoke to indiansuperleague.com shortly after the game. Here are the excerpts from the interview.ATK played valiantly tonight but sadly couldn’t get the job done. What are your thoughts on that?I’ll say we did get one job done, we were head and shoulders above them tonight. But as I’ve said before we killed ourselves in the last leg, giving us a massive miracle to achieve for tonight. It is just devastating because on the whole we’ve been as good as anybody in the league. Chennai dodged a bullet there tonight."It was a clash of the finest tonight."Iain HumeDo you think Chennai goalkeeper Apoula Edel’s performance was the defining factor tonight? He [Apoula] is a brilliant keeper. This is the first time that I might have scored past him, I think. He is easily one of the best in the league. Chennai have got the best foreign keeper this season while we have got the best Indian one [Amrinder Singh]. It was a clash of the finest tonight.
