Despite losing the second leg of their semi-final encounter against Mumbai City FC 0-1 at home, FC Goa progressed to the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 semi-final owing to a 5-2 aggregate, propelled by their 5-1 first leg victory over the Islanders last week.

After the match ended, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Goa's Hugo Boumous and Mandar Rao Dessai for their post-match comments. Here's what he had to say.

Hugo Boumous

Thoughts on the match

Today, we played as we normally play. We tried to play our style of short passes and everything. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal very quickly in the first part of the match and after that, we didn’t really play well in the first half. The second half was good. We played well but we didn’t score, but it’s okay. We are happy because we are in the final.

Could any of the chances today have been converted?

Yeah, today we had some chances and unfortunately, we didn’t score. Hopefully, we’ll score a lot of goals on Sunday.

How excited are you to play the final?

Of course, we are very excited because it was our goal - to reach the final and win it. So, we’ll do everything to do it.

Do you think you can beat Bengaluru FC?

Of course. In one match, everything is possible. We know that this is a very good team with very good players, but we are also a very good team and of course, we can win the match.

What is the team spirit like right now?

Sure, we are very excited. Now, we just played for 90 minutes, so we are a bit tired. Now, we will rest well and get ready for Sunday.

A message for the fans.

Our fans support us very well and it’s amazing. I think we have the best fans in India. Hopefully, they will be there in Mumbai on Sunday, supporting us and we can get this title together.

Mandar Rao Dessai

Thoughts on the match.

I guess it was a difficult match. We wanted to win this match, but we conceded an early goal and we were behind. We were trying to get back into the match, but I think, we were a bit relaxed and they converted the goal from our mistake. We were behind, so it was a disappointing first half.

Did the huge first leg advantage make the team complacent?

Yes, but I think, the coach told us that the match was not over and we have to play to win this match. It wasn’t like we were relaxed, but I think, it just wasn’t our match today. We tried to get back into the match after the early goal but we missed a lot of chances. Ferran Corominas missed a chance and I think, there were more.

How does it feel to take your team to the final?

The main aim was to be in the top four when the league was going on and now, the aim is just to win the league. I feel proud and great that our team will play in the final.
